McLaren reveals image of purported three-seat model

McLaren releases teaser image of new supercar code-named BP23

If your biggest gripe with your McLaren is that it really doesn’t take you very far, well the guys over at Woking in Surrey, England heard you and they’ve got just the model in the works.

McLaren Automotive has just revealed that McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has been assigned to develop the world’s first ‘Hyper-GT’ under the codename BP23, which stands for Bespoke Project 2 and its three-seating design.

“BP23 will borrow the three seat layout with the central driving position made famous by the iconic McLaren F1, and it will be housed in a streamlined, shrink-wrapped carbon fibre body of great elegance. We are calling BP23 a ‘Hyper-GT’ because it’s a car designed for longer journeys, but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren.  A hybrid powertrain will make it one of the most powerful McLarens yet created but the car will also deliver the highest levels of refinement, enabling significant journeys to be undertaken with up to three people aboard,” said McLaren Automotive’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Flewitt.

The BP23 will be based on the iconic McLaren F1 - where it take its 3-seating style - and aside from its extended range, it will also ‘be the most exquisitely crafted and luxurious road-going McLaren to date.’

Only 106 units – similar to the number of McLaren F1s sold - will be made available and as expected, each unit is already spoken for. MSO is currently in close contact with each owner in order to tailor-fit each unit to their taste and specification.

All switchgears will be bespoke and designed specifically for the BP23. It will feature dihedral doors but for the first time in McLaren’s history, apertures of the door will extend into the roof.

Expect the first units to be delivered by 2019.
