Special edition Mercedes-AMG G63 gets blacked-out

What looks menacing in black? Apparently this beast, the Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 1. Wearing an all-black paint job with subtle hints of red, this special edition 2019 G63 gets a stealthy and sporty look inside and out while still packing a powerful V8 punch.

Everything on the G63 Edition 1's exterior is painted in a unique black color. These include the bumpers, flared wheel arches and the spare tire carrier. Providing a stark contrast against the dark hue are the red stripes applied on the side mirror caps and alloy wheels. Even the AMG brake calipers are painted in the bright red hue.

But perhaps the most telltale sign that this is an Edition 1 model are the gray decals seen on the bottom of the doors. For those not in the know, other Edition 1 models also carry the same decal on the side. Beyond the obvious changes, the G63 still carries the signature Panamericana front grill, side-facing exhausts, distinct body trim, and V8-Biturbo badging.

Like the outside, the inside of the G63 Edition carries the same black-red finish. This can be seen on the leather-wrapped seats, seatbelts and contrast stitching. Meanwhile, both the door panels and center console receive a glossy burgundy trim that gives the cabin a more upscale finish.

While both the exterior and interior received many changes, under the hood remains the mighty 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8. It generates a healthy 585 PS along with a massive 850 Nm of torque. All that power is then routed to an AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG-tuned 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

This translates to a 0 – 97 km/h time of only 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h when fitted with the Driver's Package. Without that, top speed on the new G63 is only limited to 221 km/h.

The Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition will only be available for one year after the start of its production. Meanwhile, the all-new G63 will officially make its world debut at this year's Geneva International Motor Show.
