How much power does your typical compact seven-seater make? For that, you’re looking at about 100 PS. If anything, you’ll be lucky to get 120 PS. But what if we told you there is one that has almost triple the power?
That high-performance three-row compact comes from Mercedes-Benz; Mercedes-AMG, to be exact. Yes, the German automaker’s in-house tuning division has that kind of model in the form of the GLB 35. But here’s the interesting part; it’s now available in the Philippines.
So just how strong is the GLB 35? It’s powered by an AMG-tuned turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The result of all that engineering is 306 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It shifts with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and lays down the power through its 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
With that much power and torque, the GLB 35 AMG has the acceleration numbers to match some sports cars. According to factory figures, the boosted 2.0-liter can propel it to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.
Aside from all-wheel-drive, AMG made several tweaks to make the GLB 35 grip the road. It comes with a sport-oriented suspension set up, retains a decent amount of ground clearance to help it over obstacles. It has AMG Ride Control to adjust the firmness of the suspension on the fly. There’s also AMG DYNAMIC SELECT that offers five drive programs: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
As for the practical features, there’s room for seven, as previously mentioned, and a host of tech, too. A 10.25-inch infotainment screen is home to the new MBUX software. That allows the occupants to do voice commands by simply saying “Hey, Mercedes”. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and so is a Burmester surround sound system.
The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 retails for PHP 5,690,000. If you’re interested and can cough up nearly PHP 5.7 million for a car, you can check out this high-performance compact seven-seater in your nearest Mercedes-Benz showroom.
