The Mercedes-AMG C43 might not be a full AMG-tuned C-Class, but that didn't stop the in-house tuner from giving it even more power. As part of the updated C-Class range, AMG has tweaked the C43 under the hood and on the outside.

No, it doesn't get the 4.0-liter BiTurbo V8 just yet. As this is a 'junior' AMG, it packs a 3.0-liter BiTurbo V6. For 2018, the extra power comes courtesy of a larger pair of turbochargers. From 367 PS, the updated C43 now makes 390 PS, an increase of 23 PS. Torque on the other hand is the same as last year's model. That means 520 Nm of torque.

As with all 43 series AMGs, power is sent to all four wheels via a sports-tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system. With AMG's tune, more power is sent to the rear wheels. It then shifts via a nine-speed automatic transmission, also tweaked for its more sporting purpose. According to Mercedes-AMG, the C43 accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. Also available as a station wagon, the practical hot rod can hit 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

To differentiate it from the lesser-powered C-Class models, the C43 gets new exterior touches exclusive to this model. These include reshaped side skirts plus new, aerodynamically optimised AMG light-alloy wheels. With the 'Panamerica' grill reserved for the V8 version, this one gets the AMG split grill with the Mercedes Benz star boldly sitting in the middle. At the rear is a more prominent diffuser which is said improve air flow characteristics. The spoiler lip at the tip of the trunk lid is painted in the vehicle color.

Inside, the design is largely similar to the standard C Class. It does gain and extended leather package, complemented by microfibre trimmings and inserts and aluminium in a high-quality finish. As part of the C-Class model update, the C43 now gets the 10-inch infotainment screen standard. There's also an optional 12.3-inch screen with more information and entertainment capabilities plus concierge services. All C43 AMGs come with a special display which shows Warm-up, Setup, G-Force, Race Timer and Engine Data.
