The COVID-19 pandemic may have dampened the local auto industry's performance, but that hasn't stopped luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz from launching new models in the country (albeit discreetly).
Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG cars in the Philippines, has quietly launched the 2020 A 35 and CLA 35. Serving as the entry-level AMG models below the A 45 and CLA 45, these two new high-performance machines come with style, agility, speed, and high-tech luxury.
Both cars feature an athletic design courtesy of the AMG Aerodynamic Package and AMG-specific front grill design. Lightweight 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG Line bodykit, along with unique door sills further highlight the CLA 35 and A 35's sporting character. To remind every passer-by that you are in something special, AMG badges adorn the trunk lid, as well as the front fenders.
Inside, occupants are treated to Dinamica leather upholstery finished in Black Artico and yellow contrast stitching. Shiny metal trim pieces, piano black accents, along with soft-touch materials, give the two compact rockets a luxury look and feel.
Like the standard A-Class and CLA, the two AMGs also come with the latest MBUX infotainment system. It provides users with a myriad of features like intelligent voice control, real-time navigation, a heads-up display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 360-degree camera system.
Other standard amenities and safety features available inside the CLA 35 and A 35 include a Burmester sound system, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, active parking assist, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging LED ambient lighting, electronically-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, traction control, and hill-start assist.
Under the hood, both the hot hatch and hot four-door are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It puts out an impressive 306 PS along with 400 Nm of torque that's readily available at 3000 rpm.
Power is then transferred to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4Matic fully variable all-wheel-drive system. With it, the CLA 35 and A 35 can go from 0 – 100 km/h in under five seconds, and reach an electronically-governed top speed of 250 km/h. Complementing the powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine is an AMG-tuned suspension.
Interested in getting either the sedan or the hot hatchback? Well, you better have a serious offer as the prices are only available upon request, though expect prices to be lower than the A 45 and CLA 45.
