Mercedes-Benz set to introduce new entry-level engines
Mercedes-Benz set to introduce new, entry-level engine as part of providing smaller models with better economy and emissions

As Mercedes-Benz will be launching the next-generation A-Class soon, a new engine lineup will also follow suit. The new engine lineup will consist of both a 1.2 and a 1.4-liter direct-injection, four-cylinder, gasoline engines, both of which are aimed at providing smaller models with both better economy and lower emissions.
M282 will be the internal code name of the engines, and will be initially found on the upcoming A-Class. Afterwards, the new engines will also be launched in upcoming on the next-generation B-Class, GLA and CLA. Do expect the new engines to also be featured in the new A-Class Sedan, which was initially previewed as the Concept A Sedan a few months ago.

The new engines were developed in partnership with Daimler's alliance partner, Renault-Nissan, and very made specifically for transverse applications. Given its mounting position, the new engines are not expected to be found on larger Mercedes-Benz models even in their hybrid applications.
Apart from the new 1.2 and 1.4-liter engines, Mercedes-Benz is said to be planning an updated variant of the M274 engine, which will also be introduced in the new A-Class. The updated M274 engine will be renamed as the M260, and will be offered with both a 1.6 and 2.0-liter configurations. It is said that the latter 2.0-liter engine will be used as the basis for the M133 AMG developed engine currently found on the A45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 4Matic.
