Should you figure in an accident while driving (or riding in) the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class, then it is very likely you'll come out unscathed. The 2019 G-Class recently passed the European NCAP's crash test results with flying colors, earning a perfect 5-star safety rating with its impressive performance along with its host of safety features.
Specifically, the G-Wagen managed to score 90%, 83% and 78% in the areas of Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection and Vulnerable Road User Protection, respectively. Particularly, the G-Class did especially well when it comes to side impact testing, scoring a perfect 16 out of 16 points for adult occupant protection and a full 8 points for child protection. Despite the G-Class having a boxy front end, it still managed to score well in both full frontal crash tests in adults and children as well as in pedestrian safety.
When it comes to safety features and systems, Euro NCAP managed to score the G-Class 72% for its safety assistance systems. These features include an Automatic Emergency Braking system, seat belt reminder for front and rear seats, and speed limit assist. Euro NCAP does note that the G-Class' active lane keeping system could use a bit more work as it could 'intervene in some more critical situations'.
The G-Class variants tested by Euro NCAP were the G350d, G500 and the AMG G63. Euro NCAP adds that the rating applies to both left-hand drive and right-hand drive versions of the SUV.
