Two years after debut, the updated MG ZS is finally arriving in the PH

MG Philippines has something big in store on October 5, 2021. The British-Chinese marque will officially launch the refreshed ZS crossover in the country. It's about time too. The automaker first revealed the model in August 2019 before making its ASEAN debut last year at the 2020 Bangkok International Motor Show. More than a year later, and it will finally be arriving in the Philippines next month.

What's new with the refreshed MG ZS? For starters, the crossover receives a smoother-looking front end. The automaker dropped the wide grill and opted for a smaller, cleaner-looking design. Meanwhile, the slimmer headlights now come with a distinct LED daytime running light signature. MG also fitted a new bumper with more rounded corners and revised foglights and foglight housings.

At the rear, there's are a new pair of LED taillights and a smoother bumper with rounded-off corners to match the front. There are also new faux air outlets, more chrome at the bottom, and smaller reflectors. Rounding up the changes are the new wheels.

The cabin is largely carried over, but MG did say there are updates too. The infotainment screen is now larger compared to the outgoing model, while the instrument cluster comes with new software and redesigned graphics. Depending on the market, a fully digital instrument cluster is available too, something we hope is offered locally.

Under the hood, the Philippine-spec ZS could be available with two engine options. First is the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine carried over from the pre-facelift model. It produces 114 PS with 150 Nm torque and is paired to a new CVT gearbox which replaces the four-speed automatic.

The other engine may be the new 1.3-liter turbocharged mill good for 163 PS and 230 Nm torque. Instead of a CVT, it will have a six-speed automatic. MG Philippines has yet to release details, but we hope the more powerful motor is offered locally.

Excited about the updated MG ZS? We are. Stay tuned to find out more about the updated crossover together with the local specs and pricing.
