New looks, more power for 2020 MG ZS
MG may be a fresh face in the local market, but they've been picking up traction lately. One particular model, the ZS, seems to be doing most of the work bringing the brand into the mainstream. But even if the ZS is one of their newest products, the crossover will be getting an update sooner rather than later.
For the 2020 model year, MG has given the ZS a smoother-looking front end. Gone is the wide grill with the headlights connected to it. In its place is a smaller, slimmer piece with a slightly longer nose. Also, slimmed-down are the headlights sporting a new LED daytime running light signature. Bumper corners, on the other hand, are slightly more rounded off compared to before.
Inside, the design is largely carried over from the current model. There are, however, a few detail changes to be seen. There are more highlights on the steering wheel to add more contrast to the cabin, as well as on the doors and center console.
Another thing they changed in the ZS its gear selector which features an embossed MG logo. MG has also traded its mechanical parking brake to an electronic one. But the most significant change inside is its infotainment screen. It will be larger and have more connectivity functions to go along with it.
But changes to the car aren't just purely cosmetic. MG has followed the engine downsizing trend with the 2020 ZS by fitting it with a new turbocharged 1.3-liter engine. It's good for 163 PS with 230 Nm of torque. That's much higher than the 1.5-liter, naturally aspirated engine offered here which makes 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque.
The first market that will get the updated ZS will be China although this model will eventually make its way globally in either 2020 or 2021.
