MIAS 2015: BYD PH debuts Qin plug-in hybrid

BYD PH reveals its second-generation plug-in hybrid sports sedan

Solar Transport Automotive Resources Corp., (STAR Corp.), the exclusive distributor of BYD vehicles in the Philippines, has revealed the Qin (pronounced as Ch'in) during the 2015 Manila International Auto Show at the World Center in Pasay City.

The Qin is BYD's second-generation plug-in hybrid sports sedan. Up front, the vehicle is fitted with sharp-looking headlights as well as an aggressive bumper. On the other hand, the rear of Qin is characterized by distinctive taillights, a lip spoiler and a sporty bumper.

BYD says the Qin was designed as a dual-mode hybrid vehicle that is powered by a 1.5-liter direct injection turbo engine combined with two 110 kW motors. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission. With this, the Qin can generate up to 304 PS. The brand claims that the vehicle can go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 185 km/h.

In addition, the Qin has three driving modes starting with HEV-Sport which uses both the gasoline engine and the electric motor delivering an output of 304 PS and 440 Nm of torque. It also has an HEV-Eco mode which uses the electric motor from 0 to 40 km/h and automatically starts the engine when the Qin is running at over 40 km/h. BYD says the HEV-Eco mode can yield a fuel economy rating of more than 50 km/l. Lastly, the Qin has a Pure EV mode which uses the electric motor to power the vehicle with a total range of 70 km.

Since the Qin is a plug-in hybrid, BYD explained that there are two options to charge the vehicle: a wall charger which requires installation and can charge the vehicle from 0 to 100 percent in 3.5 hours and a mobile charger that can be plugged into any 220-volt plug and can charge the Qin from 0 to 100 percent in eight hours.
