The Manila International Auto Show was the setting for a rare occasion as Mazda Motor Corporation executives and Berjaya Auto Philippines premiered the all new Mazda MX-5. This is the first time that the new-generation MX-5 was shown in the ASEAN region.

“The model completely embodies Mazda’s “Jinba-ittai”—oneness between horse and rider—joy of driving using our latest technologies.” said Hiroshi Inoue, executive officer for Mazda Motor Corporation.

Finished in Mazda's premium color Soul Red, the new MX-5 follows the brand's current styling direction called Kodo while still retaining classic Miata styling cues. The new Miata is noticably curvier than the outgoing model and at the front you are greeted by Mazda's “smiling” grille. Housed in the aggressive front bumper are LED foglights and subtle chin spoilers in the front corners of the car. For the show, the car sat on 18 inch dark grey gloss wheels.

A peek inside reveals bucket seats finished in black leather and Mazda's latest on board computer which is controlled by the rotary knob on the center console.

For the Philippine market, the all new MX-5 gets the 2.0 liter SkyaActiv-G engine. It puts out 157 PS and 200 Nm of torque. It will be available either as a six speed manual or six speed automatic.

At the moment, there is no official word on pricing but Mazda executives say that the automatic variant will be under the Php 2,000,000 mark while the manual will be under Php 1,800,000.
