Mitsubishi upgrades the Mirage with restyled exterior, new standard features
After making headlines at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show and Thailand International Motor Expo, the refreshed 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage has finally arrived in the country. It receives exterior redesigns, along with a slightly tweaked interior.
Up front, the 2016 Mirage gets a major facelift which is comprised of a new grill, projector-type headlights and chrome-trim on the front bumper. GLS models will even have Bi-Xenon HID illumination that come with daytime running lights (DRLs) as standard. GLX models, on the other, get halogens.
The rear also gets design tweaks on its bumper, tailgate-mounted spoiler and combination taillights, which get LED lighting on GLS variants. Rounding it all of are new wheel designs for both the GLX and GLS lineup. The former will sit on 14-inch alloys while the latter will come with 15-inch two-tone alloys.
Inside, the 2016 Mirage gets subtle changes like the revamped instrument cluster and piano black trim on the center console and transmission gate. The GLX model now gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports AM/FM, CD, DVD, USB, Aux and Bluetooth. Other features like GPS Navigation and SD card slot are only reserved for GLS models.
Under the hood, the 2016 Mirage is still powered by a 1.2-liter MIVEC inline-three. It still produces 78 PS at 6000 rpm along with 100 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. It does however benefit from a new roller-type camshaft. The engine can be mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
