The new-generation Mazda CX-9 crossover has officially arrived in the Philippines. Sleeker and more powerful than the outgoing model, the 2017 CX-9 now conforms to the brand's Kodo – Soul of Motion design language and is propelled by a new turbocharged SkyActiv-G inline-four.
The front fascia sports the automaker's distinct design with the signature grill and distinct headlights. Housed within the flared wheel arches are new 18-inch alloy wheels that give the midsize crossover a more premium look. Around the back, the CX-9 receives new taillights, as well as a redesigned tailgate with a prominent chrome strip. Topping it all off are the dual exhausts and the integral spoiler on the tailgate.
Size-wise, the all-new CX-9 is slightly shorter in length than the outgoing model but gains extra wheelbase. It measures 5,065mm long (-30) but has an extended wheelbase which measures an additional 55mm. This was made to allow easier ingress/egress for the third row seats.
Inside, the 2017 CX-9 gets a two-tone cabin that is accented by pieces of aluminum and piano black trim. The new MZD touchscreen infotainment system also makes its way in the 2017 CX-9. Leather upholstery comes as standard too. Also, Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) isolation was also improved as Mazda was able to put more than 24 kg of deadening material below the floor.
As mentioned earlier, the all-new CX-9 is powered by a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G inline-four that benefits from a turbocharger. Called the Dynamic Pressure Turbo (DTP), the engine produces 230 PS along with 420 Nm of torque. It is then married to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels.
Other than that, the powertrain also benefits from a cooled exhaust recirculation (EGR) which gives the car a 10.5:1 compression ratio, one of the highest figures in a turbocharged engine accoridng to Mazda. Prices for the 2017 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring starts at Php 2,780,000.
