Second-generation Tiguan makes local debut
First unveiled during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has now been unveiled at this year's Manila International Auto Show. Based on the familiar MQB platform (Golf, Jetta, A3), the all-new Tiguan, is bigger and lighter than the model it replaces.
The Philippines will be getting the Tiguan in top of the line Comfortline trim. The 2017 Tiguan's exterior styling is heavily based on the Cross Coupe GTE concept shown at the 2015 North American International Motor Show. It follows the current design language of Volkswagen with a squared-off and more angular front end. From the side, a character line runs from the top half of fender trim to the rear tail light. The roofline meanwhile gently slopes downwards and forms the integrated rear spoiler. The local-spec Tiguan is the standard wheelbase model. It measures 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 1,643 mm tall.
Inside, it is similar to the Volkswagen Golf with its high stack center console angled towards the driver. For the rear occupants, the 60:40 split seats can also be adjusted for more legroom. Standard interior features in the Tiguan Comforline includes a 6.5” color touchscreen multi-media head unit, App-Connect, 8 speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, an Aux-in port and 3-zone climate control.
The Tiguan Comfortline also comes with a wide array of safety features. It packs seven airbags, electronic parking brake with auto hold, anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic differential lock (EDL), as well as electronic stability program (ESP). It also has a stop-start that cuts out engine power when stationary, saving on fuel.
All Tiguans are powered by a1.4-liter TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engine featuring BlueMotion technology. It is also the same engine found in the Jetta 1.4 TSI and produces 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It then shifts via a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
The Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 TSI Comforline starts at Php 2,259,000.
