2018 Hyundai Veloster debuts in the Philippines with new dynamic look
It’s new, it has a turbocharged engine and is ready to take on Philippine roads. Say hello to the 2018 Hyundai Veloster. Looking sleeker than before, the all-new Veloster features a more aerodynamic exterior along with a more driver-oriented cabin.
While still retaining the iconic design of the previous generation, the all-new Veloster has a bolder-looking front fascia and a sleeker rear. Up front is the new Cascading Grill as well as the restyled LED headlights. Meanwhile, the rear received sharper-looking taillights. The center-mounted exhaust has been retained from the previous generation.
In terms of size, the 2018 Veloster measures 4240mm long, 1800mm wide and 1409mm tall.
Open the doors and the Veloster features a driver-focused cabin. A three-spoke leather steering wheel, along with a new dual gauge cluster sits in front of the driver’s seat. Meanwhile, the center stack houses a new touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control system. Other standard amenities present in the 2018 Veloster include power adjustable driver’s seat, paddle shifters, trip computer and power side mirrors.
Under the hood is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that also benefits from direct injection. It generates 204 PS at 6000 rpm along with 264 Nm of torque at 1500 - 4500 rpm. Power is then to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission that drives the front wheels.
Aside from the turbocharged lump, the new Veloster also benefits from a new multi-link rear suspension borrowed from the Elantra GT. Paired with a quicker steering ratio, the 2018 Veloster will deliver sharper handling and a more precise steering control.
Standard safety kit present on the Veloster include: six airbags, anti-lock brakes, smart key system, reverse camera with parking assist and an immobilizer.
