While both cars may look like they only come with some exterior upgrades here and there, it's underneath the metal skin where the two Minis get their magic from. Pop the hood and out comes a new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-four. The new engine may be similar in displacemnt as the previous motor, but Mini claims that is where the similarities end.

It has a bigger turbo, a racing-inspired cooling system, reinforced crankshaft, upgraded pistons and connecting rods, and a new exhaust system. The result is an engine that produces an impressive 306 PS along with 450 Nm of torque. This translates to an increase of 75 PS and 100 Nm of pulling power. Power is then sent to all four wheels via the ALL4 all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Clubman JCW can go from 0 – 100 km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds while the Countryman JCW can do it in 5.1 seconds. Top speed for both the wagon and crossover are electronically-limited to 250 km/h.

Apart from being more powerful, Mini was also busy upgrading its braking system as well as its chassis. Starting with the former, it now has bigger disc brakes up front along with new four-piston brake calipers at the rear for improved stopping power. Meanwhile, the readjusted suspension and dampers have been tailored to deliver a more agile drive. Also available are the electronically-adjustable dampers that can improve the ride and handling qualities of the two cars.

Besides receiving a better engine, an improved chassis, and sharper handling, Mini has not forgotten to make the JCW look cool. Optional contrasting paintwork, LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, JCW logo and badging, and a distinct body kit make the Countryman and Clubman stand out. As far as amenities are concerned, both come with the 6.5-inch touchscreen media display with navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay connectivity, and even LED ambient lighting are equipped as standard.
