Should Mini PH bring in more units of John Cooper Works GP?

Mini’s most powerful and fastest model is finally here: the John Cooper Works GP. Limited to only 3,000 units globally, Mini Philippines has announced that the John Cooper Works GP is now available in the Philippines. Well, by available we mean available to several lucky few who managed to reserve a unit ahead of time.

As mentioned, only 3,000 units of the John Cooper Works GP will be sold globally and the Philippines has only been allocated 6 units. Here's the thing though: all 6 of them have already been spoken for according to Jeff Lizardo, general manager of Mini Philippines. So if you’re planning to get one, tough luck.

Considering that it's the most potent Mini to date, we’re not surprised that the John Cooper Works GP sold out even before it arrived in the country. Powering the high-performance Mini is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 306 HP and 450 Nm torque. Meanwhile, power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. 0 to 100 km/h only takes 5.2 seconds while top speed is rated at 265 km/h.

Along with the power bump under the hood, the John Cooper Works GP gets an aggressive exterior makeover to match. The front bumper has been revised and features larger air vents. Meanwhile, fender flares have been added to fit the wider wheels and tires used on this model. But probably the most standout design feature would be the large roof spoiler and GP stickers on the side and on the wing end.

For those wondering how much the John Cooper Works GP cost, it comes with a PhP 4,800,000 price tag. Then again, it doesn’t really matter now at this point since all local units have been accounted for. But hey who knows, if you ask Mini Philippines nicely they might just bring in more units of the most powerful Mini yet…assuming all 3,000 aren’t sold out yet.
