15 years since its reboot, Mini redesigns their logo
It's not often that an automaker redesigns their logo but starting 2018 and beyond, Mini will be putting on new badges on their cars. The British car maker said that the new logo 'takes the form of a reduced design that focuses on the essentials'.
As a refresher, the soon to be replaced variation sees the 'MINI' lettering enclosed in a black circle. It is then surrounded by silver wing tips and has been its design since the new generation of Mini hatchbacks rolled out in 2001. This new design harks back to the days of the original Austin Mini which also employs wheel and wing symbols. This time around, the black circle is gone and so are the silver wing tips. Now, it is an all-black (or white, depending on the background) theme with four bars serving as the wings.
One of the reasons for the logo redesign stated by Mini is to convey 'the new brand identity' with a wider variety of body styles added through the years. Since the relaunch in 2001, the Mini marque has expanded to five different model lines with various trim levels. It all started with the original three-door hatch, with the lineup broadened to a five-door, convertible, Clubman and Countryman plus the high-performance John Cooper Works versions.
Mini will begin applying this new logo to their cars by March of next year. It will be seen on the hood, tailgate, interior trimmings and the key fob.
