Mini Philippines launches new 'entry-level' One; in 5-Door and 3-Door versions
Say hello the 2018 Mini One, the brand's newest hatchback offering in the Philippines that slots below the 3-Door and 5-Door Cooper models.
It features the same go-kart-like handling and peppiness as its stablemates at a more affordable price. It also comes with the brand's signature hatchback design from which it became world-famous for. The circular LED headlights, distinct front grill and eye-catching roofline serves as a reminder that you are in a Mini. It also gets LED foglights, chrome door handles and grill surround, stylish alloy wheels, and black wheel lip moldings.
Like the Cooper range, the Mini One is available in either 3-door or 5-door body styles. The Three-Door measures 3821mm long, 1425mm tall and has a 2495mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, the Five-Door comes in at 3982mm long, 1425mm tall and comes with a 2567mm wheelbase. Both versions are 1727mm in width.
A combination of fabric and leather cover the seats which makes for a comfy and snug ride. Black trim pieces, as well as faux metal accents liven up the cabin of the Mini One. Placed at the center console is Mini's signature 8.8-inch entertainment display with LED ambient light. It supports AM/FM radio, Aux Bluetooth and USB. A multi-function leather steering wheel is also fitted as standard and comes with buttons for the audio system and cruise control. Available extras for the Mini One include navigation, Mini Connect, and a Harman/Kardon speaker system.
In terms of luggage space, the 3-Door version can carry 211 liters with the rear seats up (711 liters with seats down). The 5-Door, on the other hand, is capable of holding between 278 liters and 941 liters of cargo.
Pop the hood and there's a 1.2-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It puts out 102 PS at 4000 – 6000 rpm along with 180 Nm of torque at 1400 – 3900 rpm. Mini claims it can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 192 km/h. For better fuel economy, the Mini One comes equipped with auto start/stop function.
Standard safety features present in the Mini One include: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), dynamic stability control (DSC), dynamic traction control (DTC), rear parking sensors, power-folding side mirrors and a host of airbags.
