MINI has just revealed their first ever Cooper 5-Door Hatchback model to slot just above the classic Cooper 3-Door version. The move comes just months after the new Cooper 3-Door Hatch.
Mini has increased the wheelbase by 72mm and added 11mm to the height, thereby entending the overall length to 4005mm and overall height to 1425mm. Unlike the Countryman compact 5-door crossover, the new model has a similar ride height to its 3-door counterparts.
The rear legroom of this longer Mini now has 72mm more space while above the shoulders it is 15mm roomier and trunk capacity has increased to 278 liters.
The new MINI 5-Door Hatch will come with four engine options: a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo delivering 134 PS and 220 Nm (230 Nm with power boost), a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel with 114 PS and 270 Nm in the Cooper D, a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo diesel with 168 PS and 360 Nm in the Cooper SD and a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo with 189 PS & 280 Nm (300 Nm with power boost) in Cooper S.
Mini will offer three different transmissions, a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed Steptronic transmission or a Steptronic sports unit, depending on the trim the customer opts for.
According to Ryan Watson, the GM of MINI Philippines, the new MINI 5-Door hatch will be offered by January 2015 in Cooper and Cooper S trim levels.
