Mitsubishi announces new global Compact Crossover

The game changer

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced the forthcoming introduction of its all-new on-road Compact Crossover, to debut in Japanese dealerships in February of 2010.

The new model is derived from the much-acclaimed 2007 Concept-cX show car, it is the latest development of MMC's mid-size global platform ('Project Global').

This product supports Mitsubishi Motors' strategic shift from being an SUV-focused nameplate to a manufacturer of environment-friendly passenger cars & crossovers, with a presence in the 'authentic off-roader' segment itself pre-empting structural changes in market demand.

The European premiere of the new model is scheduled for the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Further details have yet to be revealed. It is possible that it might be equipped with the 136ps 1.8-liter clean diesel engine (as seen in the concept) mated to a Twin Clutch SST transmission and an electronically controlled 4WD drivetrain.

The new Compact Crossover is touted as Mitsubishi's next game changer towards lower impact vehicles, following the i-MIEV.

In related news, Mitsubishi announced that the 'MiEV OS' integrated vehicle control system installed in the i-MiEV, has been selected by the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization (NPO), as the winner for its '2009 Japan Automotive Hall of Fame Car Technology of the Year' award.
