New and improved
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has just developed the latest generation of their MIVEC technology with the new 4J10 1.8 liter engine.
The light, compact SOHC 4J10 gets a new version of MIVEC variable valve timing, producing 139 horsepower and 172 Newton meters of torque. Mitsubishi claims that the new engine shows an imrovement of 12% in fuel efficiency, thanks to the addition of a new and improved version of the Auto Stop & Go system that shuts off the engine when idling in traffic and instantly restarts when the car gets going.
The new engine will make its way into many of Mitsubishi's models, including the Lancer EX (Lancer or Galant Fortis in other markets), the ASX (the Outlander Sport or RVR in other markets) and the Lancer Sportback (not available locally). The JDM models will get the new engines by October 27.
The current engine for all variants of the local market ASX and Lancer EX is the 4B11, a 2.0 liter engine capable of 150 and 155 horsepower, respectively.
