Most people nowadays look for the prestige and the status that the SUV brings, but the prestige stops when the family and their stuff do not fit anymore; that is when the van's presence comes in. However, there are times when the family van is too cumbersome to drive around, so the nimbleness of a passenger car is needed. However, due to size constraints, most cars can only do so much. Therefore, instead of buying three of these distinct vehicles, Mitsubishi thought of fusing these features and comes up with the Fuzion. Officially described as a Sport Wagon, it integrates three distinct features: sporty character and ruggedness of an SUV, the spaciousness and versatility of a van, and riding comfort of a passenger car.
By integrating these three virtues and a whole lot more, Mitsubishi introduces a vehicle that is not only versatile but also modern and stylish at the same time. The sleek and streamlined exterior embodies the modern design mindset that Mitsubishi is propagating into the entirety of their line-up. Starting with the large headlamps and front fascia, to the flared wheel wells of the side profile, to the high mount horizontal tail lamps, the Fuzion takes its cues from its Outlander stable mate, of which it also inherits most of its character.
The modernity of the exterior is complemented by the likewise modern interior that embodies versatility. Second row seats slide and recline all in the name of passenger comfort. Load conveyance is not compromised with the third row seat being collapsible to give way to cargo. Visual cues of the interior include the futuristic blue-inspired gauges and fresh color schemes. Silver accents adorn the steering wheel and floor console, thereby adding a touch of sportiness. For the top-end GLS Sport variant, the interior color scheme is finished in maroon and beige, while it is blue and gray for the GLX variant. To dislodge the competition, Mitsubishi ensures that the Fuzion's interior is bigger, and is plagued with lots of convenient storages.
A SOHC 2.4 liter 16-valve gasoline engine that also powered the first generation Outlander and the Space Gear power the Fuzion. Without any variable valve timing and other similar technologies, this engine tips the scales at 136 Ps/5,200 rpm as maximum output and 203 Nm maximum torque/4,000 rpm. It is the n mated to a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive. This combination is engineered for an optimal balance of superior running performance and economical operation
The Fuzion rides on front double wishbone suspension and a three-link coil spring with extra length trailing arms. Its long wheelbase, wider tracks and sedan-bias tires all guarantee a comfortable ride with minimal body roll. All these integrate into a highly rigid and wider chassis frame that promotes running stability. The FUZION also has a minimum ground clearance of 180 mm for superior drivability on rough, flooded, and otherwise difficult road surfaces. Large approach and departure angles further promote the FUZION's versatility to overcome difficult road conditions.
The Fuzion GLS could very well qualify as family's next luxury wagon with its long list of features. To name a few, it has as HID headlamps with leveling control, fog lamps, rear spoiler with LED brake lamps, 16" alloy wheels with 225/60/16 tires, muffler cutter, and wheel cut molding, as standard exterior equipment. The interior is then fitted with plush leather upholstery, automatic dual air-conditioning, power driver's seat, and a feature-packed head unit that is iPod and USB capable, as well as DVD/VCD/CD/MP3 playback. To complete the entertainment package, a 7" LCD monitor is included. The GLS Sport also has safety features on board such as ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, as well as a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The GLS Sport retails for PHP 1.150M.
The Fuzion GLX, on the other hand, has multi-reflector headlamps, lift-type tailgate, 15" alloy wheels shod on 205/70/15 tires, glass printed antenna, rear wiper and defogger, 4-spoke urethane steering, standard dual air-conditioning, and a MP3 capable head unit with iPod connectivity and USB port. The GLX sells at a very competitive PHP 950,000.
The Fuzion is now available at all MMPC dealerships nationwide.
