Triton Athlete 4x4 retails for PHP 1.909M

It’s no longer called the L200, it’s no longer the Strada. Say hello to Mitsubishi’s newest pickup truck, the 2024 Triton.

Mitsubishi Motors PH has launched the all-new Triton – their latest model that will compete in the highly contested pickup truck segment in the Philippine market. This is the sixth-generation model of the Triton/L200/Strada bloodline and the first full model change in eight years.

Size-wise, the all-new Stra… er, Triton has grown longer and wider over its previous generation. Depending on the variant, the Triton measures 5,265-5,360 mm long, 1,865-1,930 mm wide, and 1,775-1,815 mm tall. The wheelbase, on the other hand, has been stretched from 3000 mm to 3,130 mm for better stability, more cabin space, and overall ride comfort. Minimum ground clearance starts at 203 mm for the base GL M/T variant, while the rest of the model line has 222 mm.

Underpinned by a new platform, Mitsubishi has made the chassis thicker, stiffer, stronger, and lighter than its predecessor. Mitsubishi claims the all-new Triton’s ladder frame has 65% greater cross-sectional area, 40% better torsional rigidity, and 60% better-bending rigidity. The lighter chassis gives the Triton a curb weight of 1,805 to 2,035 kg, depending on the variant.

When it comes to the looks, Mitsubishi calls the all-new Triton’s design “Beast Mode”, which is aimed to give a meaner and more robust stance to the pickup truck. The Triton’s proportions have been squared off, while the front fascia shows the evolution of the Dynamic Shield concept that makes use of a split LED headlight and daytime running lamps. It’s worth noting that the all-new Triton’s look was given the 2023 Japan Good Design Award, along with the XForce and Delica Mini.

Meanwhile, the orange motif has been carried over to the top-spec Athlete variant. The color appears on the leather seats and the accent stitching while blending in nicely with the blacked-out interior. Design-wise, the all-new Triton’s cabin is bolder and boxier than ever, appearing with a few shared parts from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

The all-new Triton has a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. For the first time, the Triton now has a 360-degree around view camera on the infotainment screen for both GLS and Athlete variants for better maneuverability and monitoring through tight spaces and parking instances.

Depending on the variant, other features include a rear A/C blower (Athlete only), power driver’s seat (Athlete only), wireless charging, dual-zone climate control (Athlete and GLS), Type A and Type C USB ports, cruise control plus tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel.

The 2024 Triton also arrives with two iterations of its MIVEC turbodiesel engine. The new 4N16 comes in two variants – the single turbo version puts out a healthy 183 PS at 3500 rpm, and 430 Nm of torque from 2250 to 2500 rpm, while the top-spec two-stage biturbo boosts power output to 204 PS and 470 Nm of torque accessible from 1500 to 2750 rpm. Transmission choices are a six-speed automatic with manual mode and a shift-by-wire six-speed manual.
