Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) shows its fervent commitment to the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) by bringing in a two thousand ton auto stamping machine for its new stamping facility.
The only one of its kind in the country, this piece of equipment will allow the automaker to produce bulky vehicle parts including vehicle body side outer panel, roof panel, floor panel, and door panel.
MMPC is set to begin operation of the machine when its stamping facility opens on January 2018 in order to be able to meet the requirement of manufacturing at least fifty percent (50%) of the vehicle’s assembly weight under the CARS program.
Aside from allowing MMPC to produce its own metal stamped parts, the machine and the stamping facility will generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs while cutting down on the delivery lead time of metal stamped parts.
“For more than half a century that the company has been producing quality vehicles, this is the first time that MMPC will have its own stamping facility,” said MMPC Vice President for Production Engineering Department, Mr. Rolando Francisco.
To achieve efficient operation of the machine, MMPC sent engineers to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan (MMC) to learn the proper stamping processes, use, maintenance and repair of the machine, plus the care of the stamping die – the most important tool in the line.
Metal stamped parts are now being ordered from Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Co. Ltd. (MMTh) for the mass production of the Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan. The new facility will further localize content for these models.
“Given our knowledge now of this stamping technology, we will aim to have high productivity, high material yield ratio and scrap recovery and most importantly having to operate it safely. Above all, MMPC’s goal is to provide high quality automobiles,” added Francisco.
