Out of all the global automotive manufacturers with production plants in Thailand, one has emerged as the country’s top exporter for the fiscal year 2016.
Mitsubishi Motors, with a total export volume of 309,915 units for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2017, is Thailand’s number one automotive exporter and has beaten other big global auto brands that also manufacture for export from Thailand.
After its noteworthy performance, Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang factory has now become the automaker’s largest global production plant, accounting for 80% of all local production sold for export and reaches 120 countries all around the world.
This development coincides with the very first visit of Carlos Ghosn to the Thai plant, which also boasts of the largest production capacity of any Mitsubishi Motors factory anywhere in the world, since becoming chairman of Mitsubishi Motors.
"The Laem Chabang plant in Thailand is a tremendous strength of Mitsubishi Motors' business. Our world-class production facilities are capable of producing 424,000 vehicles a year. As Thailand's leading automotive exporter, this factory has become the global production hub for Mitsubishi Motors," said Mr Ghosn.
The main export destinations of Mitsubishi vehicles manufactures in Thailand are Europe (28%), ASEAN and Asia region (25%), North America (21%), Oceania (12%), Others (14 %).
