The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a pickup-based SUV we rather like here in Its soft, pliant ride and revolutionary turbodiesel engine are just some of the noteworthy things we can say about it. But lately, its main rivals have been giving their models a bit of an update.

To counter that, Mitsubishi will be launching the 2020 Montero Sport sooner than you think. Next month, to be exact. Excited? That's not all because we got the scoop on variants and prices too.

According to reliable sources, the 2020 Montero Sport will initially come in two variants. The first will be the GLS 4x2 and the other will be the GT 4x2. Yes folks, you can soon get the top-spec variant in two-wheel drive. With that, it seems like Mitsubishi has dropped the GLS Premium variant in favor of the GT 4x2.

Aside from the new look, the Philippine-spec Montero Sport GLS will come with LED headlights as the soon to be outgoing one doesn't have them. Also, even the base model comes with the new fully-digital LCD instrument cluster, stability and traction control (Mitsubishi Active Traction and Stability Control or MASTC), hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. For comparison basis, the 2019 model does not come with the active safety features. The digital instrument cluster is new for 2020.

On to the GT and it has two additions from the GLS. For starters, the exterior comes with a tailgate spoiler, just like the current 4x4 variant. Another feature it gains is the power tailgate, keeping in line with the competition. Engine and transmission are still the same as before. Both variants are powered by the 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel mill and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission seems to have been dropped, perhaps at least for now.

If you've noticed, we haven't mentioned anything about the 4x4 model just yet. According to sources, the 2020 Montero Sport will be initially launched as two-wheel drive and the four-wheel drive variant will follow soon after.

Prices, you ask? Sources say prices start at Php 1,769,000 for the GLS 4x2 while the GT 4x2 will retail for Php 1,998,000.
