After spy photos of the 2016 Montero Sport (Pajero Sport in other markets) were posted on the web a few days ago, Mitsubishi Motors has officially released a teaser video of the upcoming new-generation PPV ahead of its world debut in Thailand next month.

Billed by Mitsubishi Motors as “Designed for Perfection”, the 2016 Montero Sport clearly borrows styling cues from such concept SUVs like the GC-PHEV and the Outlander PHEV-S. Seen up front is the new Dynamic Shield grill that is paired up with new headlights that come with a distinct chrome trim and a new bumper.

The side still retains the PPV’s signature silhouette though it has better defined wheel arches. It is at the rear that the Montero Sport gets a major design change for 2016 as it comes with vertical taillights that appear to pay homage to the first-generation Montero Sport. Completing the rear decor is a new tailgate.

The 2016 Montero Sport is likely to have the same powertrain options as the Strada/L200/Triton pickup which debuted late 2013. It features a new 2.4-liter MIVEC turbo diesel rated at 182 PS with 430 Nm of torque and the long-enduring 4D56 2.5-liter commonrail turbo diesel rated at 178 PS with 400 Nm of torque.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Montero Sport will have its global debut on August 1, 2015 in Thailand.
