Mitsubishi Xpander leads in fuel efficiency test by AAP
The Mitsubishi Xpander is the most fuel efficient car in its class after a test by the AAP

With the soaring prices of both gasoline and diesel, fuel efficiency is now a big factor one considers when buying a brand new vehicle. The Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) recently ran a test to see which vehicles would be the most fuel efficient in their respective classes. The Mitsubishi Xpander managed to clinch the most efficient fuel car in its class.
Two models of the Xpander – GLX MT and GLS Sport AT – were test simulatenously with four other comeptitive brand models along the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX). The methods and parameters tested were based on the Fuel Economy Drive by the Department of Energy. To ensure fairness during testing, the AAP monitored and supervised the whole run.

All six vehicles managed to run an average distance of 236.58km each. The Xpander GLX MT managed to record a 21.01km/L while the Xpander GLS Sport AT recorded 22.94km/L after the run. It beat out six other models in its class including diesel models with regards to fuel efficency. The third place model only managed to record 19.8 km/L, and the least fuel efficient did 17.4 km/L.
For reference, the Xpander is powered by a 1.5-liter 4A91 engine which produces 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque. It is then mated to a 4-speed automatic tranmission sending power to the front wheels.
