With less than a week before Holy Week 2016, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has already made plans to start Oplan Metro Alalay Semana Santa (MASS) 2016 to assist motorist travelling out of the metro for the long vacation and when they return after Easter Sunday.

Oplan MASS 2016 will be in effect starting March 23 (Holy Wednesday) until March 28 (Easter Monday) and it includes the lifting of the number-coding scheme on March 23, 2016 only for provincial buses in order to facilitate the departure of commuters to various provinces.

The MMDA will also deploy 3,073 traffic personnel and emergency response groups to major roads like EDSA, North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway and other streets that lead to bus and jeepney terminals, airports and seaports in order to direct vehicular flow.

Traffic constables will also be stationed near LRT and MRT stations, major intersections, churches and even places of pilgrimage assist motorists and pedestrians.

The agency’s roadside emergency group will also be on standby should motorists encounter vehicular trouble or need first-aid assistance.

Everyone is encouraged to call the MMDA hotline 136 to get traffic updates and request for assistance. People may also get in touch with the agency via their social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. These outlets will be available to the public 24/7 during the Holy Week.

Motorists are also being advised to leave early for their destination and prepare alternate routes should they encounter heavy traffic along the way.
