If your work schedule allows you to take advantage when malls bring back big discounts sales during the weekdays, well don’t hold your breath.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has extended the policy on banning ‘weekday sales’ at malls for the entire year, as per agreement with mall owners and operators.

After seeing the positive effect the MMDA policy has had on traffic in and around the vicinity of malls, both parties have decided to extend the policy for the greater good.

“This only shows that everybody wants to be part of the solution,” said MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos.

The policy also includes the implementation of nighttime deliveries-only to malls in order to reduce the vehicular volume in the area. This means that deliveries can only be done between 11PM and 5AM the next day.

“This only shows that everybody wants to be part of the solution,” he said.

The MMDA has also extended the offer to train mall security personnel in traffic management in order to better handle traffic situations in and around malls.

“We will train them on traffic management and have them deputized so they can issue traffic violation receipts to erring motorists within their areas of jurisdiction. This will also be a big help for us to control traffic in these areas,” added Orbos.
