The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has released an advisory late yesterday regarding the traffic situation approaching the final weekend before Christmas.
According to the agency, expect traffic to hit its peak by tomorrow, Friday, December 19, 2014 as shoppers make their final purchases on the last Friday before Christmas. Congestion will not only be on EDSA but will also be concentrated around shopping malls and commercial establishments.
The agency has assigned 400 additional traffic enforcers to complement the already existing 443-strong on EDSA and other critical areas of Metro Manila. They will be on duty from 4pm until 12 midnight to assist in traffic flow management.
For motorists and commuters alike, the MMDA is asking for patience as the holiday season brings in an extra 20 percent in vehicular volume annually.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino also warns of heavy traffic on December 23 as people make a mad dash to the malls for last-minute shopping.
