Do you use the Magallanes Interchange to get from Manila to Northbound EDSA?
Well, you better find a new route.
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has closed off a portion of the Magallanes Interchange starting at 6AM today, April 1. Specifically, the left turning ramp coming from Manila going to Northbound EDSA of the Magallanes Interchange has been closed to vehicular traffic.
In an advisory, the reason behind the closure is in part of the agency’s plan to address worsening traffic woes as well as vehicular accidents that occur in the area. According to data from the MMDA’s Traffic Engineering Center, around 7,772 vehicles pass from Manila to EDSA Northbound while 19,304 vehicles traverse from EDSA to Osmena Highway (South Superhighway). Given that they crisscross in the said portion of the interchange; it causes major traffic gridlock and even accidents in the area.
The MMDA has advised affected motorists to take the Magallanes Loop/Magallanes Village or Nichols Interchange as an alternate route.
For now, there is no word as to how long the left turning ramp of the Magallanes Interchange will be closed to traffic.
