Motorists wary about the traffic jam that will be caused by the Senator Gil Puyat Avenue/Buendia underpass construction can rest a little easy, for now.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has put a stop to plans by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to begin construction of the underpass along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue yesterday, June 15, 2015.
According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, the DPWH has yet to complete the necessary preparations prior to construction like a traffic management plan in order to manage the congested vehicular flow.
"The project will not push through yet," said Tolentino.
"A rerouting plan has to be in place complete with alternative routes that motorists can take in order to lessen the impact of traffic on commuters," added Tolentino.
For now, only a proposal to use Jupiter Street as an alternative route to EDSA has been proposed by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson.
The four-lane underpass will use the innermost lanes of Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue and allow motorists to bypass the intersections of Makati Avenue and Paseo de Roxas.
It will be 880 meters long and 570 meters wide with a target completion date of January 2017.
