Friday Number Coding still a go says MMDA
On Friday, August 25, FIBA will hold the opening ceremonies of the World Cup here in the country. The government, knowing that the Philippines is a basketball-crazed nation, has declared the suspension of government office work, as well as the suspension of classes in all public schools in Metro Manila and Bulacan.
The MMDA, meanwhile, will not suspend the Expanded Number Coding scheme on Friday, during the opening day of the FIBA World Cup. Affected vehicles are those with license plates that end in 9 or 0.
As part of the preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the MMDA has set up a multi-agency command center (MACC) to give way to a faster and more coordinated traffic management response.
Road works (reblocking, utility works, pipe laying, road upgrading, excavation works) in Metro Manila are temporarily suspended effective midnight of August 17 (Thursday) up to midnight of September 10 (Sunday).
Moreover, malls along EDSA and other areas affected by the FIBA World Cup 2023 will be prohibited from conducting mall-wide sales to ensure that all affected roads will remain passable, clean, safe, and serviceable to all types of vehicles and pedestrians during the said period.
