The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is anticipating a massive increase in vehicular traffic during the Christmas season and is now working on solutions to lessen its impact on motorists.
Currently, the MMDA is revisiting the Christmas and Mabuhay lanes to check and see if the roads and routes are still available to use as some are currently under repair.
"We will study this week if these Christmas lanes are still available," said MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino.
The agency is focusing on roads leading to and from shopping malls and other places of interest during the Holidays.
Road rehabilitation by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are expected to be finished by the end of the month as the MMDA plans to suspend road works, repairs and reblockings as soon as December comes around.
As an alternative, Chairman Tolentino has advised shoppers planning to go to Divisoria or markets in Manila to try the ferry service which starts at 6am until 6pm.
