If the revised Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), otherwise known as the number-coding scheme, already feels too restrictive, it may actually get tougher.

A new proposal has surfaced and it comes from House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez. He opines that implementation of the UVVRP should be enhanced and even lengthened, albeit temporarily, this December in order to further reduce the worsening traffic congestion.

The proposal states that a three-digit ban is to be implemented during the weekdays while a two-digit system is to be implemented during the weekend.

Suarez left the fine details to be hashed out by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) but he expects that this additional measure could reduce traffic by 30 to 40 percent.

For their part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will tackle this proposal today with its governing body the Metro Manila Council and its 17-member mayors along with I-ACT.
