With six flagship projects in Metro Manila approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and more expected to be greenlit in the coming months, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has begun drafting the National Capital Region (NCR) regional development plan (RDP) aimed at reducing vehicular congestion in the metropolis.
The RDP is being drawn up based on the five-year Philippine Development Plan (PDP) of 2017 to 2022 and also aligned with the agency’s roadmap for urban development Greenprint 2030.
“We have completed a first draft for NCR’s sectoral assessment that will go into the RDP. We are now conducting bilateral consultations with different sectors as we delve into crafting crucial strategies for developing the country’s capital guided by the overall Philippine Development Plan,” said Director for Metropolitan Planning Josefina Faulan.
The MMDA will consult with local government units and various other sectors during the development of the RDP in order to ensure comprehensive support and strict implementation in their respective localities.
“It is only timely that we are discussing the PDP—of which, infrastructure development is a key part—as this is the best solution to the heavy traffic that we are experiencing in Metro Manila,” said MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim.
To make sure that all transport-related decisions and investments are made soundly by respective government agencies in the national and local level, a National Transport Policy has also been approved by NEDA.
“The government assures the people that the problem of congestion on the roads is still being prioritized. The NTP is a priority strategy reflected in the PDP as we seek to provide accessible social services through better connectivity,” said Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia.
