MMDA to remove U-turn slots at the corner of Quezon Avenue and EDSA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that it will make changes to the traffic flow along the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue by removing the existing U-turn slots.
Based on research data, 4,000 vehicles use the U-turn slot at the intersection of EDSA and Quezon Avenue and this causes heavy traffic.
"Ang big adjustment na later on gagawin ay ang opening ng Quezon Avenue intersection," said MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos.
[“The big adjustment we will implement is the opening of the Quezon Avenue intersection.”]
Traffic lights will be reinstalled to allow southbound and northbound vehicles from both sides of Quezon Avenue to turn left to EDSA.
All vehicles headed to Manila from the Quezon Memorial Circle and vice-versa will have to use the underpass and will not be allowed cross the Quezon Avenue and EDSA intersection.
"Ang diretso sa ilalim (Quezon Avenue-EDSA underpass). Aalisin ang diretso sa taas," said MMDA Traffic Engineering Center head Neomi Recio.
[“If you’re going straight (from Quezon Avenue to Manila) take the underpass. We will remove the ‘straight-through’ route at ground level.”]
According to the MMDA, they will need a few weeks to install the traffic lights and remove existing installations in order to implement the new traffic scheme.
