This may sound silly, but the MMDA is about to re-implement a long forgotten, but very basic rule of the road: turn on your headlights at night.
Under Republic Act 4136, driving without your headlamps 30 minutes after sunset or 30 minutes before sunrise constitutes a violation and is deemed reckless driving. The fine is PhP 500 along with the confiscation of the driver's license.
The MMDA will be very strict in their implementation, which begins tomorrow, Thursday, September 22, 2011.
The most common culprits include jeepney, buses, taxicabs, tricycles, and motorcycles. Case in point, when we received word of this re-implementation, Brent went downstairs to try and snap a photograph of an errant vehicle at 6:15 PM. It took him only 5 minutes to return with our main photo that you see above.
To make sure there is no misunderstanding about the re-implementation, the MMDA has published a version of the flyer in Filipino.
