Heads up motorists! Several U-turn slots along Commonwealth and C5 Road will be transferred to another location by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) this weekend.

According to MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, the relocation of the U-Turn slots will be done in order to give way to several infrastructure projects on each thoroughfare.

Beginning with the one along Commonwealth, the U-turn slot in front of CW Home Depot will be moved to the area near Tandang Sora and Luzon flyover on 12:00 AM Sunday, June 30. In addition, the MMDA will also be opening the U-turn slot near Don Antonio in order to accommodate light vehicles.

The relocation was done in order to give way to the construction of the tunnel guide way for MRT-7, as well as in preparation for President Duterte’s 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) next month. Around 10,000 vehicles will be affected by the relocation added Garcia.

MMDA to move around some of Metro Manila

Aside from that, a U-Turn slot along C5 Road will also be moved to another location, specifically the one located before the ramp / tollgate of C5-SLEX. It will be transferred on Saturday (June 29) in front of the Heritage Park Gate Mortuary which is about 300 meters away from the original location.

The transfer of this particular slot was done in preparation of the construction of a ramp of C5-Cavitex flyover that is located along SLEX. This will connect with the existing C5 Road in Taguig and C5 Extension that is in the cities of Pasay and Taguig.

“The flyover would cut the travel time from C5 Road going to southern areas in the metro like Las Piñas and Parañaque cities. But there is a need to build a ramp before the flyover could be opened,” added Garcia.

The MMDA claims that around 8,000 motorists traveling from Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to Kalayaan, and about 2,500 vehicles along SLEX will be affected by the transfer of the U-Turn slot. With that in mind, the MMDA also advised motorists to plan out their routes and adjust their travel time.
