All-new Subaru XV to make Philippine debut in September
Motor Image has just held the launch of the all-new 2018 Subaru XV for its nine markets in Asia at an exclusive event held in Taipei, Taiwan.
The new crossover represents the XV's first full model change since its initial debut in 2012. It is also the second model to be built under the new Subaru Global Platform which will underpin their new generation of vehicles with "heightened levels of confidence, comfort and control".
"The All-New Subaru XV is a unique crossover vehicle that combines practicality with aesthetics and performance. It is a bold car suited for drivers to Unpark their lives and go on activities that they love," said Mr Glenn Tan, Executive Director, Tan Chong International Ltd.
Subaru says the XV was designed to deliver less shake and less body roll while providing more dynamism. These refined manners are derived from the new, more rigid platform and body. Subaru engineers also utilized a quicker steering gear ratio and lowered the center of gravity for more responsive handling and improved straight line stability.
In terms of styling, the XV incorporates the Japanese automaker's new 'Dynamic x Solid' design philosophy resulting in a distinctively rugged and sporty exterior. Featuring Subaru's iconic hexagonal grille with C-shaped headlights, the XV also gets matte-black cladding on the front bumper and a new aluminium wheel design. Sitting in a wide and low stance, the XV combines advanced styling with superior aerodynamics while retaining the high ground clearance of 220mm.
Subaru is also introducing three new colors for the 2018 XV; they are Cool Gray Khaki, Sunshine Orange and Pure Red. This is in addition to Quartz Blue Pearl, Dark Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Dark Gray Metallic and Crystal Black Metallic.
The design language continues inside the new crossover which gives it a new spacious design flow which gives it a sporty, yet refined feel. In addition, functionalities such as all-round visibility, cabin space and cargo room have been improved. The infotainment system is controlled via an 8-inch touch-screen display which offers Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Under the hood is a revised version of the FB20 2.0-liter Boxer Direct Fuel Injection naturally aspirated engine rated with 156 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 196 Nm @ 4,000 rpm, similarly found in the recently launched 2017 Impreza. It is mated to an also updated Lineartronic 7-speed CVT transmission. Both engine and transmission get a significant diet; 12 kilograms and 7.8 kilograms, respectively.
Hallmark of Subaru's "confidence in motion" is its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, now with X-Mode for the XV as found in the Forester and Outback models. X-Mode enhances driving performance on challenging terrain through optimised integrated control of the engine, all-wheel drive system, brakes and other functions.
In terms of safety, the All-New Subaru XV recently won the Grand Prix Award in Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) Collision Safety Performance Assessment with the highest score ever.
Thanks to the new platform, passive safety also gets an improvement with enhanced body strength resulting from an increased use of high-tensile steel. This enables improved energy absorption in the event of collision by 40% over present models.
Active safety features consist of High Beam Assist technology, which detects traffic and automatically switches headlights between high and low beam with the help of a monocular camera integrated in the rear-vew mirror. The same mirror also features automatic anti-glare for better night driving comfort and safety.
The headlights are also fitted with steering response tech allowing the light beam to move according to the direction of how the car is steered. Last but not the least, it features a new Rear View Detection which offers blind spot detection for safer lane change and warns drivers on potential collision danger while reversing into a street with cross traffic through the aid of sensors around the XV.
"We are thrilled to launch this new vehicle built on the new Subaru Global Platform, with improved interior and exterior styling. With this, we are confident that the All-New Subaru XV will exceed expectations and deliver a driving experience that is second to none," Tan added.
