After making its regional debut in Taiwan three months ago, the 2018 Subaru XV has officially arrived in the Philippines. Featuring an all-new look, improved driving dynamics and a revised powertrain, the 2018 XV aims to deliver practicality and functionality in one crossover.
“The all-new Subaru XV is a bold statement that will cater to Filipinos who require the practical and functional features of a crossover SUV for their everyday actitivities. We are thrilled to launch this new generation XV built on the new Subaru Global Platform. The first generation XV was very well received and we are confident that the all-new Subaru will be the perfect driving partner for Filipinos, whether it be in daily traffic or out-of-town escapades,” said Reza Mutalib, Head of Regional Marketing, Motor Image Enterprises Pte. Ltd.
Beginning with the exterior, the 2018 XV features Subaru's new design language called 'Dynamic x Solid'. Up front, it gets sharp C-shaped headlights reminiscent from the Impreza along with a revised hexagonal grill. Shod in the wheel wells are newly-designed 18-inch aluminum alloys.
As always, the wheel arches, front bumper, rear bumper and side sills come with matte body cladding that enhances the XV's rugged profile. Also new on the XV are its taillights which give the crossover a more upscale and aggressive look. In terms of size, the 2018 XV measures 4465mm long, 1800mm wide and 1615mm tall. In addition, the all-new XV has a 2665mm wheelbase and a 220mm ground clearance.
Underpinning the crossover is the new Subaru Global Platform which is also seeing use in the Impreza. Compared to the old platform, Subaru said the Global Platform is more rigid and reduces vibrations and body roll. Apart from that, the 2018 XV also has better body strength thanks to the increased use of high-tensile steel. With it, the XV has a 40-percent improvement in energy absorption in an event of a collision.
Inside, the 2018 XV also received a major redesign in the form of a sportier and more comfortable cabin. It gets a smaller steering wheel which will aid in snappier steering, a revised dashboard and center console, a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, breathable seat covers with orange contrast stitching a new multi-info display.
Other standard in-car features available in the XV include: automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, electronic parking brake, paddle shifters, cruise control and automatic headlights as such.
Under the hood is a revised 2.0-liter FB20 Boxer engine that is 12kg lighter than before and benefits from direct injection. It generates 156 PS at 6000 rpm along with 196 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. It is then connected to an updated Lineartronic CVT that is 7.8 kg lighter and comes with a seven-speed manual mode. Power is sent to all four wheels courtesy of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
For the first time, the XV now comes with X-Mode which enchances driving performance by optimizing the engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive system, vehicle dynamics control and brakes. Better manueverability comes courtesy of a new quicker steering gear ratio and a lower center of gravity.
Other new features introduced in the 2018 XV include: High Beam Assist which automatically switches between high beam and low beam when it detects oncoming vehicles, Steering Responsive Headlights that move to the direction of the steering wheel and Rear View Detection that helps in safer lane changing and reversing.
As for safety, the 2018 XV comes with anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, engine immobilizer, vehicle dynamics control, ISOFIX child seat anchors and seven airbags.
