2019 Peugeot 5008 officially makes Philippine debut
After being previewed for the Philippine market last November 2017, Peugeot has officially launched the all-new 5008. Redesigned as a sporty crossover in its latest iteration, the second generation 5008 has ditched its van-like looks and comes with a plethora of high-tech features enveloped in a sleek and practical package.
Like the 3008, the 5008 has received a major design change. No longer an MPV, the new-generation 5008 is now a C-segment crossover that features a striking exterior. Radical-looking headlights dominate the front fascia, along with an aggressively designed bumper and grill. Meanwhile, the wheel wells are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 series tires. Rounding up the exterior changes on the 5008 are the 'lion-claw' taillights which serve as a signature look for Peugeot.
In terms of size, the redesigned 5008 measures 4641mm long, 1844mm wide and 1646mm tall. The 5008 also has a generous 2870mm wheelbase and a 236mm ground clearance.
Inside, the 5008 sports the brand's new i-Cockpit design. It features a driver-centric dashboard along with a sleek flat-bottomed steering wheel. Two large screens dominate the cabin of the 5008. First is the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with multi-info display. Meanwhile, placed at the center is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Bluetooth, Mirror Link, USB, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Also, despite now being a crossover, the 5008 retains its seven-seat configuration from before.
Propelling the all-new 5008 is a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline inline-four. The engine produces a healthy 165 PS at 6000 rpm along with 240 Nm of torque at 1400 rpm. Power is then routed through a six-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.
A wide array of safety features come as standard on the 2019 5008. It has anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), electronic stability program (ESP), front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera with 360-degree around-view monitor, hill-start assist, park assist, cruise control, blind spot monitoring and six airbags (driver, passenger, two sides and two curtains).
Other amenities present on the 5008 are: automatic LED healights, rain-sensing wipers, heated and electric-folding side mirrors, engine start-stop button, 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, heated and massage front seats, leather upholstery, dual zone automatic climate control and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The 2019 Peugeot 5008 1.6 THP retails for Php 2,990,000.
