As a form of recompense for the hardships and tremendous traffic motorists endured during its construction, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has made sure that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Expressway Phase 2A project will finish on time and open up as scheduled.

"Ready na, finishing touches na lang, ready na NAIA Expressway going to NAIA 1 and 2, first phase. As far as all systems, go. We just conducted last minute checking so I think we are good," said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.

As previously announced by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, use of the NAIA Expressway Phase 2a will be toll-free for 30 days as per agreement between the DPWH, the DOTr and Vertex Tollways Development Inc.

"We just want people to experience the road and see for themselves. Matagal din sila nagtiis sa traffic so we hope any concession that we could get for our commuters I think would be welcome," added Villar.

Phase 2A connects the NAIA Expressway to NAIA Terminals 1 and 2 while the NAIA 3 connection is expected to open before Christmas 2016 and the connection between Terminal 1 and 2 is slated to open February 2017.

The NAIA Expressway Project is a 4-lane elevated highway that will provide access to NAIA Terminals 1, 2 and 3 while interfacing with the Skyway and the Cavite Expressway.

It has 13 entry and exit ramps, 3 connecting ramps and runs over Sales Avenue, Andrews Avenue, Electrical Road, above Paranaque River and NAIA Road.
