The patience of motorists who frequently suffer through the congestion in the NAIA area will soon pay off as the first phase of the expressway is set to open.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has announced that the NAIA Expressway that connects to Terminal 1 and 2 is set to open on September 22, 2016.
Aside from the benefit of reducing travel time and allowing motorists to escape the traffic along the at-grade level, Tugade also promised that no toll fees will be collected from motorists during its first month of operation.
"The public will enjoy one month free—no toll fees," Tugade told Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Travel time between NAIA Terminal 1 and 2 and Macapagal Avenue will be reduced to only five minutes from a high of fifteen.
According to Tugade, making the use of the NAIA Expressway free was “not cheap” as the concessionaire will absorb the expense.
The four-lane, 7.14-kilometers NAIA Expressway will be operated by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and is designed to connect with the Skyway Stage 2 that leads to the Cavite Expressway.
Phase 2 of the NAIA Expressway is set to open on October of this year.
