At the 2014 North American International Auto Show Chevrolet introduced a new family member of the Corvette clan: the 2015 Corvette Z06.

The Corvette Z06 is the first Corvette model to offer a supercharged engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a removable roof panel. The Z06 will also be offered with the optional Z07 package.

To created the Corvette Z06, Chevrolet took the basic Corvette Stingray and gave it a purposeful upgrade and redesign. According to the company, the design concept of the Corvette Z06 did not begin with the exterior panels, but the tires. The exterior of the Corvette Z06 is designed to produce aerodynamic downforce that pushes the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (Pilot Sport Cup 2 for the Z07) to the ground at high speed for improved grip and stability.

Powering the new Z06 is an LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine that gives the Z06 up to 625 horsepower and a tarmac-ripping 860 Newton-meters of torque. The LT4 has the same technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray, these are, the direct injection, the active fuel management or cylindrical deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing. The engine can be matched to a seven-speed manual transmission or through an new superfast eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Chevrolet claims the new transmission is faster than the PDK dual clutch found in Porsches.

The Corvette Z06 also has the Driver Mode Selector which includes the following: Launch Control for maximum off-the-line acceleration, Active Handling, Traction Control, Performance Traction Management and an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD).

The eLSD has three calibrations that vary among three Driving Mode Selector setting which are the following: Mode 1 for normal driving and vehicle stability, Mode 2 for performance driving and Mode 3 for even higher performance.

Chevrolet says that the new Corvette Z06 will be available in early 2015.
