NAIAS 2015: Nissan debuts Cummins V8-powered 2016 Titan XD

Powered by a 5.0-liter turbo-diesel V8 that produces 314 PS and 752 Nm of torque

Following a teaser back in December, The next-generation Nissan Titan pickup was revealed by the Japanese automaker during the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

The first of the new Nissan pickups to debut is the Titan XD, the brand's most powerful model in terms of towing and hauling capability as it can pull and carry goods like a heavy duty pickup truck but still have the fuel efficiency of half-ton pickups.

Externally, the front of the 2016 Titan XD has large headlights, foglamps, a rectangular mesh grill and a skid plate. The side features very little apart from the side steps and gray-colored wheel arches while the rear features vertical taillights and a simple rear bumper design.

Nissan did not state much about the cabin of the Titan XD but they did say that it has Zero Gravity seats for both the front and rear rows, along with a large center console that was designed to be a mobile workstation.

Other features available in the Titan XD include RearView Monitor with Trailer Guides, Around-View Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD) and a Trailer Light Check system that enables one-person hook-up operation.

Under the hood is a Cummins 5.0-liter turbo-diesel V8 that is rated to produce 314 PS and 752 Nm of torque. Given these output figures, Nissan claims that the Titan XD is capable of having a maximum towing capacity of 5,443 kg when properly equipped.

The 2016 Titan XD uses the Crew Cab body styling but other body styles will be available in the future, along with three other powertrain settings. More information about the all-new Nissan Titan will become available at a later date.
