The Kia Forte5 hatchback debuted alongside its similarly refreshed sedan version at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
Inspired by the all-new Kia Optima, the 2017 Forte5 hatchback sports a wider ‘tiger nose’ grill as well as a redesigned front bumper and sweptback headlights which elongate the vehicle’s profile as compared to the outgoing model.
The rear has revised taillights and Kia says higher trim models of the 2017 Forte5 comes with LED daytime running lights. The Korean automaker adds that the SX trim is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, distinctive front and rear fascias with red accents as well as dual exhaust pipes.
The interior of the 2017 Forte5 shares similarities with the sedan version. It features the brand’s 7-inch UVO infotainment touchscreen system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The UVO system allows drivers to send text messages, play music and access driving directions. However, the SX trim has orange leather seat inserts and contrasting stitching.
Powering the 2017 Forte5 is a 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine, paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. On the other hand, the SX trim is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine, connected with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power output ratings are yet to be revealed by the Korean automaker.
