Tiguan GTE Active concept is built for off-road driving
The Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active concept has made its debut at the 2016 North American International Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
Based on the second-generation Tiguan, the vehicle is essentially the rugged version of the GTE concept that was revealed last year during the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Tiguan GTE Active concept is fitted with a front skid plate which gives us an idea that the vehicle is meant for off-road driving. The concept's fascia also has a revamped bumper, restyled air intakes, sharp-looking LED headlights and C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The roof also has two LED auxiliary lights, which are framed in matte aluminum. Volkswagen says the Tiguan GTE Active concept also has two aluminum-colored metal hooks in the air intakes.
Turning at the side, the Tiguan GTE Active concept's prominent stance is enhanced by 'Dark Graphite' wheel arches. It also comes with sill protection and the concept is characterized by straight lines. It is finished off with 16-inch off-road tires.
The rear is equipped with a matte aluminum underbody guard, a roof-mounted spoiler, an aggressive bumper and wraparound taillights. The German automaker adds that the lower bumper of the Tiguan GTE Active concept is protected by anthracite colored all-terrain trim.
In terms of dimensions, the Tiguan GTE Active concept measures 4493mm long, 1900mm wide, 1765mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2682mm.
Inside, the Tiguan GTE Active concept features a two-tone interior theme along with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, silver trims and Nappa leather upholstery. In addition, the concept is integrated with Volkswagen's next-gen modular infotainment system featuring 9.2-inch touchscreen with gesture control.
Powering the Tiguan GTE Active concept is a turbocharged direct-injection TSI gasoline engine and two electric motors. The combined power output delivers 224 PS and the vehicle can cover up to 32 km in all-electric mode. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
